Start with a scope callThe quote was confident. The timeline was a range with an optimistic bottom end. A month in, the scope turned out to include a few things nobody had thought about, and the number moved.
What you were left with is harder to talk about. A codebase that works, sort of, and that nobody wants to touch. Every change quoted as a project. The people who wrote it have moved on.
We can’t promise that never happens. We can tell you what we do to make it less likely, and you can check whether we did it.
We write down what the first phase includes and what it leaves out, then quote a number against it. If the scope changes we say so before the work happens, not on the invoice.
Not a status report. A link you can open on your phone and show someone. If a week produces nothing you can click, that is worth knowing in week two rather than month four.
Your GitHub organisation, your hosting, your database. Not ours with a handover promised later. You can replace us at any point and lose nothing but us.
